An ELCA congregation within the Southeastern Synod, Gloria Dei is centered in the promise of salvation, by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, a gift of God freely given to all people. We gather around worship, Bible study, and fellowship to care for one another, grow our faith, and share the gifts that God has given us.
We fully embrace Jesus’ commandment to love others. We believe that everyone is our neighbor and strive to love like Jesus did, without hesitation, reservation, or exclusion.
We are actively engaged with the South Knoxville Community, offering support and fellowship through outreach activities at Fish Hospitality Pantry, Compassion Coalition, Tyson House, and New Hopewell Elementary School. We are also active in supporting those in need beyond the local community through active involvement with Lutheran World Relief, ELCA World Hunger and Samaritan’s Purse.
Our church is a safe space and a judgment-free zone within which people are invited to grow their faith.
Come and enjoy singing the "O the Joy!" liturgy, written by Gregory Berg, on the 3rd and 5th Sunday of each month
The essence of the theological foundation of our faith is reflected in the Solas - Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, and Sola Scriptura - grace alone, faith alone, and scripture alone - grounding our belief that we are called to love our neighbors, all of whom are made in God's image. Our ministry programs integrate these beliefs through embodiment of the call to “love your neighbor as yourself” as we meet people where they are, walking alongside of them and providing support that honors them as a unique individual regardless of their race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, spiritual or religious beliefs.
If you are looking for a loving, supportive, and inclusive church home in Knoxville, we hope you will consider visiting us at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. We are small enough so we know everyone's name and just the right size to provide "hands on" support to several area programs supporting members of the South Knoxville Community.
